The Climate Exploration Award went to Nora Williams, 6th
grade at Kennett Middle School, for her project, “How Does
Climate Change Affect Seashells?”
Winners went home with a backpack from the Mount
Washington Observatory, which was crammed with Observatory gifts, and generous donations from local companies.
In reflecting on the day’s events, Christa Biche, SAU#9
director of curriculum and instruction said, “Every student
I spoke with felt an overwhelming sense of pride, and felt
valued by their community. They saw, firsthand, how their
community showed up to support them—the incredible
venue, T-shirts, lunch, prizes, amazing judges, volunteers,
and the presence of so many community members and
organizations—all reinforcing that their ideas, potential,
and learning matter.”
The MWV Youth STEM Expo is grateful to generous
sponsors who made the event possible: Foxfire Property
Management of Concord, NH; the Kiwanis Club of the Mt.
Washington Valley, and the White Mountains Community
College. Other major sponsors are Ambix Manufacturing,
Northeast Delta Dental, Horizons Engineering, The Dearborn Foundation, and the Rotary Club of North Conway.
As the event wrapped up and students carried their
projects home, excitement for next year was already in the
air. The MWV Youth STEM Expo continues to grow, sparking
curiosity and motivating future scientists, engineers,
and innovators in the Mt. Washington Valley.
