New Owner, Same Philosophy
Peter Limmer & Sons was first founded in Vachendorf, Germany in 1919, by Peter Limmer Sr. After immigrating to the
U.S. in 1925, the family business established itself in Jamaica
Plain, Massachusetts, where the shop stayed until 1950. At
that point, being drawn to the familiar, rolling landscape of the
White Mountains, the company moved to its current location
in Intervale. Over the years, ownership of the shop passed from
Peter Limmer Sr. onto his sons Peter and Francis; and eventually to the Peter Limmer known in Intervale today.
While Adam is the first owner of the company not
to carry the Limmer name, he is well versed in the family
lore—and proud to be a part of its heritage. Photographs
and written memorabilia of Limmer family history still
decorate the shop, as they have for generations. When
asked recently about Adam’s place in the story of Limmer
family heritage, Peter saw no discontinuity with Adam’s
ownership. He reflected that when he took ownership of
