2025 Backcountry
GEAR Favorites
By Andrew Drummond
The evolution of backcountry gear has found its
rhythm with small incremental improvements
each season. This year is similar to last, where
manufacturers shave grams, add features, and
iterate on what is already a great product. It’s
a buyer’s market and here’s what we’re excited
about in 2025.
TELEMARK!
Yes, we’re leading off with telemark because this category is
receiving a much-needed product update. Scarpa released
a NEW boot—the TX Pro (v2) which, is a refined version of
its predecessor (released in 2008) that is lighter and has a
walk mode inherited from Scarpa’s Alpine Touring boots.
The demand for this boot has been high—and Scarpa
can’t produce enough—which is a sign of the market.
Along with boots, we have new skis and bindings from
Voile that pair well to enhance the tele experience. The
Transit binding has a removable heel cable to make
faster and more comfortable ascents, which is the
perfect match for their new Endeavour ski that has
the slender profile of a mountaineering ski, yet the
poplar core gives it a boost in stability.
BINDINGS
We are huge fans of the brand ATK,
which is known for lightweight and
high-performing backcountry bindings.
This season, they released a new model, the
RT11, which is a dream to ski. It has a completely
new (and patented) toe piece that not only makes
stepping in a dream, but greatly improves release
and retention properties with its overhauled
cam mechanism.

The new lightweight ATK RT11
backcountry binding will provide that
extra confidence in no-fall zones.
