BOOMER!
Now that we have skins fitted for the skis, it’s time to talk about
general care and maintenance. Skins will last as long as you take
care of them. Here’s our workflow for using skins and ensuring we
get the most use out of them.
• The morning of tours, put your skins on your skis so not to forget them.
• Over 500 Craft Beers
• Make Your Own 6-Pack
• Just South of Storyland
• Leave the skin savers and skin bag at home so they don’t blow away in
the wind—and so we don’t lose those as well!
• Do your best to fold skins up neatly to avoid exposing the skin adhesive to
dirt and debris that might be floating around your pack.
• On cold days, it’s wise to store skins in your jacket so that body heat
warms them up to keep the glue sticky for the next lap.
• Always bring some voile straps in the event of glue failure.
• For those warmer spring days, it’s wise to rub on skin wax to help avoid
snow and ice buildup, which is a quick way to ruin a tour.
• After touring, make sure to dry out your skins. This means
air drying them away from a heat source. Excess heat and
moisture can damage the adhesive.

• Make sure ski bases are free of dirt, moisture, or wax when applying.
• Use skin savers for storage after skins have dried.
Through the course of a season, apply touch-up glue where needed. This is
usually around the tip or tail, but also underfoot. After a couple of seasons, the
skin might be due for a full reglue; I’ll use a reglue kit to bring the skins back to
life. Once the plush has worn out (missing fur underfoot is a good indicator),
it’s time to find a new pair of skins and start the cycle all over again.
